Prompt and efficient. Answered questions fully and made thoughtful suggestions.
Introductions for simple projects, such as fixing broken computers, is often rather perfunctory: the customer shows me what needs fixing, and I fix it. For larger projects, such as outfitting offices, creating and expanding networks, and deploying major software packages, I'll sit down with the customer, or at least speak with him on the phone, and in order to understand what the customer wants and needs, explain to him the process of fulfilling them and setting expectations. In all cases, I try my best to avoid using a lot of jargon. I strive to be the IT consultant that speaks to you in plain English.
I have a BA in Computer Science and 30 years of experience in corporate Information Technology, including everything from system design and programming to help desk.
Most fees are charged on a time and materials basis. I charge $65/hour for home computer systems, and $75/hour for corporate work. I do not charge for travel time, although a one-hour minimum charge may apply to customers located more than an hour away from me. There are no "bench charges" just to see what's wrong. All work is guaranteed for 30 days. Best of all, if I can't help you, you pay nothing!
I was "downsized" from an IT Manager position in 2009. A year of "pounding the pavement" yielded a 5-month programming contract job located more than 60 miles from home! It paid well enough to be worth taking, but when the contract ended, I couldn't stomach another round of resumes, trying to score interviews and collecting unemployment. People who knew me had already started hiring me for small consulting jobs, and I had worked as a consultant before, so I decided instead to start my own consulting company. But I knew it would not be enough to simply be yet another high tech consultant; I needed to offer something that would encourage customers to come back to me whenever they had a tech problem, and refer others as well. With that in mind, I thought about all the things I remembered consulting companies doing that people really hated - unexplained charges, bench charges, charges just for showing up, spouting technical drivel - and resolved to do avoid doing those things. Thus, Lebowitz IT Services never charges unless we actually do something to help you, our customer. We speak to you in plain English to the extent that it is possible, and explain the technical stuff as best we can when the plain English words just don't exist. And unlike most of our competitors, we accept major credit cards and hold BBB A+ accreditation.
Home users, business users and even starving students -- we find a way to work with just about anybody.
