Glenunga International High School Learning Building + Gymnasium

The Glenunga International High School Learning Building and Gymnasium is a multi-building expansion for the school that includes a three-storey science, technology and learning building and a double-court gymnasium with supporting education and amenity spaces. The new buildings harmonise with the existing Learning Hub’s sweeping curves and material palette. Bright, north-facing learning spaces and courts open up and spill out to outdoor landscapes.

Capturing key views inside and out

The Science, Technology and Learning Building captures key vistas to the north-eastern open space, and views of the Adelaide Hills to the southeast. Pedestrian linkages flow from adjacent buildings and continue internally along ‘learning streets’ that connect General Learning Areas (GLA), staff facilities, and breakout ‘pods’. A prominent innovation centre and manufacturing space on the ground floor foster the creative integration of traditional and emerging technologies. On upper levels, ‘Da Vinci suites’ are adaptable to science and art lesson plans.

Striking street frontage design

The gymnasium holds a strong street presence with its striking, curved facade. Two basketball courts and retractable seating allow for a variety of uses. Staff support areas, fitness room, change amenities and learning spaces wrap around the courts. The new buildings will accommodate the influx of Year 7 students due to commence in 2022. The design solution will minimise disruption and decanting costs and keep the school safely operational during construction works.
