About this pro

I am personally involved in every project, at every step of the process. I offer high-touch, personalized and professional service to every job I undertake. I work to meet the particular needs of each project and client, and do not bring a pre-determined design solution; each solution is unique and is tailored to the particular needs of the client.

Creating work that nurtures the body, delights the senses, and enriches the soul. I've done my job well when the project makes the client's life better, often in ways they had never even considered.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

The first step is an initial consultation on the phone to discuss the project scope, budget, timeframe, and other parameters. At this time I also outline my typical fee structure and price ranges for the type of project envisioned. If it looks like I would be a good fit, then we can schedule a preliminary meeting to review the project, and I can provide references for similar wor. From there, I will prepare a formal proposal. If the proposal is accepted, we then move into the design phase. I

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a Bachelor of Architecture with High Honors from the California College of the Arts in San Francisco. I am a LEED accredited professional, with a BD+C credential (Building Design and Construction). I am also an AIA member. I have had my own practice for 7 years, with over 20 years of professional experience prior to that.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your services? If so, please share the details here.

All pricing is on a time and materials basis. I provide a fee estimate based on the initial scope.

How did you get started in this business?

Playing with blocks and drawing airports for my toy planes when I was six years old.

What types of customers have you worked with?

My clients are private individuals and families.

Describe a recent project you are fond of.

A new single-story modern home in Menlo Park, approximately 3500 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 2 home offices, and an open plan great room. 2 car parking, solar power, abundant natural light, custom casework, finishes, and fixtures throughout.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a pro in your area of expertise?

Look for a professional who does work that you like, and has similar projects in their portfolio. Be realistic in your expectations; home remodeling shows on TV are not a good guide for the real world, especially in terms of budget and schedule. Allow plenty of time for design and construction, and begin your project well in advance of the anticipated construction date.

What questions should customers think through before talking to pros about their needs?

What is your budget, what is your time frame, are you familiar with the approvals process for your area? In California, planning approval can be an ardous and time-consuming process.
